Distinctive area of the college

The primary purpose of the college is to provide education of moral and ethical values to students to promote the social responsibilities. Since the college is in a backward district and  the majority of the students in this college belong to SC, ST and OBC category coming from rural areas and falling below  poverty line. The college  has always tried to give not only book knowledge but to educate them with good manner, self-respect, politeness, conscientious, good physical and mental health. They also focus on national standards of quality education and enduring sense of discipline.

The students are backbone of society so, their first duty is to serve for society. Youth are the great human resources and huge source of energy so it is quite necessary that they should be aware about the social responsibilities and they are supposed to use their energy for social awareness for the betterment of our developing nation.

The college has always strived to build the students in such a manner that students continuously participate in society building thus the college has NSS, YRC and NCC wings which stand by the society at every critical Juncture. At present there are three NSS units which includes two boys units and one Girls unit. Each unit consist of 50 student volunteers for a period of at least two years. One programme officer is appointed for each unit. The NSS has been introduced in the college since 1972 to promote national consciousness and to inculcate a sense of social responsibility, discipline among students.

The specific objectives of our NSS units are to arouse the student’s social consciousness and provide opportunity to them, To work with and among the people of slum area as well as the urban areas and encourage the NSS volunteers in non-violent and constructive social activities.To identify the needs and problems of their community and involve themselves in the problem solving process.  To develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibilities.To utilize their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems.To develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities.To gain skills in mobilizing the community participation.To acquire the leadership qualities and democratic attitude. To develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters.

 

Students undertake various programmes in the college, in the adopted villages and urban slums during the weekends or after college hours, such as:

 Cleanliness Drive on the College Campus. Celebration of the Birth and Death Anniversaries of the Leaders and Social Workers of repute and to conduct various activities like Debating Competitions, Essay writing Competitions etc. Organizing various types of rallies in the Adopted villages/town for the purposes like Tree Plantation, AIDS Awareness, Literacy Awareness, and Collecting Funds for Social causes.Providing the opportunities to the students to attend various District, University, State, National level camps. Developing leadership qualities among the students during the   activities and camps.  Organizing Blood Donation camps, cultural activities, Competitions and social activities in the adopted villages.

The students actively participated in the Flood Relief camps at K.Singpur Block distributing relief, coordinating with District Administration in rehabilitation and search. NSS volunteers also participated in Winter Adventure Camp at Rishikesh where total of 40 students attended 28 boys and 12 girls.

The Youth Red Cross was started in the college in 1993.The YRC aims to train zealous youth in fundamanetal principles of Red cross so that they remain unperturbed and develop in themselves elements of sacrifice when disasters strike humanity. YRC tries to promote spirit of sacrifice, health, hygiene, fraternity, leadership and self reliance.

Vounteers attend an awareness rally followed by a one day Workshop at Dist HQ Hospital on 1st December on the occasion of World AIDS Day every year. The volunteers of YRC attend the District parade, with their troop,  on 26th of January and 15th August and other volunteers rendered service on the stage and off the stage.

Sri P.Pawan Sai, Sri Ajit Kumara and some other volunteers of our college attended the victims of  Hirakhand train accident at Kuneru on 21st of January 2017. For his excellent service Sri P. Pawan Sai was appreciated by the then District Collector Rayagada Smt. Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar.

The YRC volunteers, Principal and staff observe the Red Cross foundation day on 8th of May every year. International Day of Yoga on 21st June is organized in collaboration with NSS and NCC of this college and a number of students and faculty members attend the session of yoga every year guided by a yoga master.

A Blood Donation Camp was organized in collaboration with NSS on 27th of December in the college and 67 units of blood was collected by the Blood Bank of HQ Hospital, Rayagada.

Volunteers participate in an awareness rally on International Mental Health Day on 10th October under the banner of District HQ Hospital.

The Kargil Vijay Diwas Rally was organized on 30th July 2019 by the volunteers along with NCC and NSS of the college commemorating the sacrifices of martyrs of Kargil War. The candle march was undertaken by  200 students.

An awareness rally and Cleaning of National Highway of the town was done by the volunteers on 25th of September, 2019.

On 2nd October 2019, under plugging and run of Fit Indian Movement 2019, the volunteers went for a run and collected garbage from the roadside areas and asked it from the households and dumped at the finishing point. The run was inaugurated by the principal.

Sri Jayadev Rout, Cycle paddler, wish to travel for 9000km to awaken common people about the virtue of Blood Donation, was recieved in the college by Volunteers of Youth Red Cross and other students.

NCC, YRC and NSS volunteers also extend their support by collecting from staff and students and donating necessary funds to families of students who have had accidental deaths for cremation, undergoing medical treatments for hospital fees and also have collected for a child suffering from cancer in the locality.
